posse! performative practice between art and politics
published 15.04.2004

Workshop at Ladyfest Wien and Course at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Excursions to several Ladyfest events and local-based interventions in power-relations are planned.

Gender - and Queer Theories as well as poststructuralist concepts are important tasks for this practically oriented course. Socio-political and performative interventions which both question and combat the hegemonic politics of representation and culture are the core aim of this workshop. From a feminist standpoint one might ask: Where can hegemonic and patriarchal representations be located? Which kind of gender-representations are inscribed in divers institutions? What about the possibilities of local-based subversive performativity? Which methods and strategies work in cultural and medial oriented contexts? What about the representation of state-run authorities? What can be identified as possibilities of assault, passage and escape in public space?

There has already been a first, more theoretical oriented workshop in January 2004. If you are interested in some literature about performative practice, ask for the “Posse-Materialmappe” at the Institut für Wissenschaften und Technologien in der Kunst, Schillerplatz 3.
